TransUnion Canada Applauds Passage of New Identity Theft Act
TransUnion Canada today congratulated Justice Minister Rob Nicholson, the Government of Canada and all Parliamentarians for passing new provisions to the criminal code that would impose penalties on those who commit or are attempting to commit identity theft.
“We believe the new criminal code provisions provide law enforcement with the tools it needs to bring to justice those responsible for crimes of identity theft against Canadian citizens,” stated Ken Porter, president of TransUnion Canada. “As a company that helps people proactively protect themselves from these types of crimes and works with them to offer assistance in recovering from the very personal and devastating consequences of fraud and identity theft when it does occur, TransUnion sees firsthand the very real need for these new provisions.”
Bill S-4, An Act to Amend the Criminal Code (identity theft and related misconduct) received Royal Assent on October 21, 2009.
TransUnion’s industry leading Fraud Victim Assistance Department (FVAD) has worked closely with those in law enforcement for many years. “We look forward to achieving significant results together in the future based on this important development.” continued Porter.
